Best Gifts for Miniature Painters
Updated How we research
The failure mode with a painting gift is buying a consumable. Paint is a taste decision, primer is a habit, glue gets bought by the box, and a single pot of anything reads as an accessory rather than a present. This selection filters on two things instead. First, self-contained: it works out of the box without a second purchase, so a boxed paint set that ships with its own brush qualifies and a lone bottle does not. Second, hard to justify buying for yourself, which is where painting handles, magnifying headsets, wet palettes with sealing lids and acrylic display cases live. Painters postpone those for years because none of them make the next model look better on their own. Sizes are worth checking before ordering. Display cases are sold by tier count and interior height, and anything much over 60mm on its base needs the taller shelves. Handles come in a standard and an extra large version, split at roughly the 50mm base line. Table mats are quoted in feet, and the two common footprints are 4 by 4 and 6 by 4. Skill level matters less than people assume, since a contrast paint set and a fine brush set both get used at any level, but a ninety bottle range only makes sense for someone already painting weekly.
